The only MLS championship ring in New York is the one D.C. United gave Shep Messing

Shep Messing has more MLS Cup rings than any member of the New York Red Bulls.

Jonathan Tannenwald of Philly.com has been dropping a bunch of bombshells, having gotten his hands on the full court documents from Peter Nowak's wrongful termination suit against the Philadelphia Union and Major League Soccer. We will unpack all of the sordid details, because some of them affect D.C. United, tomorrow, but first we have to laugh at New York.

Apperently Shep Messing was such a close advisor to Nowak during the 2004 season that he gave Messing a championship ring after United won that year's MLS Cup. That means that Shep Messing, former New York Cosmos player and TV commentator, has more MLS Cup rings than any team based in New York or New Jersey; and, not only that, but it was charity instead of actually earned.
