D.C. United moves midweek game with New England Revolution to weekend

An event cancellation freed up the team to hold the game on Saturday instead of Wednesday.

In an email sent to Season Ticket Holders, D.C. United announced that its game this month at RFK Stadium with the New England Revolution, originally scheduled for Wednesday, June 22 at 8pm, has been moved to Saturday, June 25 at 7pm. Steve Goff first mentioned that an event cancellation at RFK allowed the team to take the preferred weekend time, according to the Events DC calendar there is a charity 5K Fun Run/Walk "...to raise funds for the poverty stricken youth."

Along with getting a higher attendance number (and the Revs not playing that weekend anyway), this would help D.C. for the primary reason of being able to keep their fairly weekly routine of games. The new date falls between a Saturday, June 18 game at the Houston Dynamo and a Friday, July 1 game at Real Salt Lake. However, it could make a Round of 16 match in the US Open Cup slightly tough to choose a roster for, assuming they get past the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on June 15th at Maryland Soccerplex.

Oh yeah, there's also the benefit of allowing for added time on a weekend date to allow for Metro's SafeTrack plans.

Nevertheless, hooray calendar Gods.
