D.C. United versus New England Revolution lineup: Already a crop of injuries

New, comments

Ben Olsen will have some choices to make as he retools for the New England Revolution

D.C. United travel to Gillette Stadium this weekend to take on the New England Revolution, and have to battle through a slew of injuries. In addition, they also have to find a way to rebound after losing to the LA Galaxy, a game in which they looked good in the first half but collapsed in the second. Who will they turn to to right the ship against the Revs?

The first question is who starts next to Luciano Acosta at striker with Patrick Nyarko looking like he will be absent next week. Lamar Neagle started next to Acosta against the LA Galaxy and scored United's only goal before being moved to the wing in the second half due to Nyarko's concussion. He got this start in place of Fabian Espindola, who hasn't showed much this season so far and continued that streak when he came on in the second half.

Now, with Nyarko out I would assume that Chris Rolfe and Lamar Neagle would be the wingers, with Fabian Espindola coming in at forward. However, with Fabian Espindola also nursing an injury, all of this is thrown up in the air. I am going to guess that Olsen lets Espindola continue to heal by keeping him on the bench, which keeps Neagle up top and always Miguel Aguilar or Rob Vincent to get a start.

I expect the rest of the team to be the same, with a backline of Sean Franklin, Bobby Boswell, Steve Birnbaum and Taylor Kemp in front of Andrew Dykstra; a central midfield of Nick DeLeon and Marcelo Sarvas, and Luciano Acosta next to Lamar Neagle. It is going to take a lot for Kofi Opare to pass Bobby Boswell, and Charlie Horton is currently behind Travis Worra on the depth chart, so don't expect changes there any time soon.

With this lineup, the substitutes would be Travis Worra, Kofi Opare, Alvaro Saborio, Rob Vincent, Fabian Espindola, Julian Buescher, and Collin Martin. What do you want to see Ben Olsen do this weekend?
