Eddie Johnson suspended for two games for kicking the ball at Carlos Salcedo

As well all expected, MLS has suspended Eddie Johnson for two matches.

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Ben Olsen expected, we expected it, and I assume that Eddie Johnson must have expected it too. However, MLS today officially announced that Eddie Johnson has been suspended for two league games for kicking the ball at Carlos Salcedo, who was on the ground at the time (Violent conduct now carries an automatic two game suspension). This means that he will miss this Sunday's game against the Colorado Rapids as well as next Saturday's game against Sporting Kansas City. As you can see from our lineup post, my preferred replacement would be Chris Rolfe moving to the front line, but Fabian Espindola and Luis Silva did combine well the last time they started together.

I would assume that there is now an almost guaranteed chance that Eddie Johnson will start in next Wednesday's game against Waterhouse FC in the Concacaf Champions League, giving some veteran presence to a team that is likely to be lacking in it. This is the third time this season that the Disciplinary Committee has taken action against Johnson, after having been fined for hands to the face of FC Dallas' Zach Loyd as well as being suspended for a reckless challenge on Troy Perkins.
