Hey, what are you doing up so early reading these? You really should be grilling, or smoking a pork butt for 12 hours before pulling apart the meaty goodness. But since you're here, here are your links:
Recaps of Saturday's loss at New England from us, MLS (with more on the League site from Pablo Maurer), District Sports Page, UnitedMania and CSN Washington. On the opposite side, our friends at The Bent Musket cover the Revs' side of the game.
RICHMOND 2, CHARLOTTE 0 - Richmond Kickers: Down a level, the Collin Martin-less Kickers dispatch of Charlotte behind two George Davis IV goals, and take over second place in the USL Pro. Additionally, Davis is now second in the league in goals.
D.C. United: Former Indonesian coal executive no longer an owner: Hey, remember that time we were among those who wondered about the Thohir business? Well in an unrelated story, one of the owners that was part of the ownership group is no longer same.
D.C. United creating more dangerous shots this season: The Post (with the help of the excellent Michael Caley) examines what has improved for the Black and Red offensively and through the analytics lens. On a related note, SB Nation has a MLS advanced statistics page which is being updated through the season and is worth perusing.
CONCACAF Champions League: MLS teams to learn fate for 2014-15 group stage in May 28 draw | MLSsoccer.com: Ahead of the draw (which as a PSA will stream on the CONCACAF site Wednesday night), a look at the possible teams D.C. may go up against.
SoccerAmerica - Liga MX final outdraws EPL and NHL 05/21/2014: While MLS TV ratings are a bit of a problem, the Liga MX reminds us that non-international competition soccer isn't going unwatched.
Valderrama’s Dream | MLS Insider Presented by adidas - SBNation.com: An excellent look at one of the icons in the League.
The Goal King! LA Galaxy's Landon Donovan sets new MLS goal record | MLSsoccer.com: Landon Donovan scored a goal on the team formerly known as the Philadelphia Union. Which begs the question if Philly loses to Chivas on Saturday, does John Hackworth get to fly back with the team?
Fernando Ricksen was a former right back/right mid who captained Glasgow Rangers among more than 250 appearances from 2000-2006. At 37 he has been diagnosed with ALS and over the weekend, a testimonial match was done in his honor. Video of a PK he scored is here, and a interview from last week is here.
Red River (1948) - The Criterion Collection: Finally, this week's movie pick is Criterion's release of the Western "Red River," starring John Wayne and Montgomery Clift. The film serves as a blueprint of sorts for the more polished cynical Wayne character in The Searchers, and Clift appears is one of his first film roles in his excellent yet brief career. Worth checking out for peripheral fans of Wayne or the Western genre.
As always, this is your place to talk about what you wish to talk about.
