D.C. United 1-0 New York Red Bulls - Highlights

United held on against a second-half onslaught, and viewers held on against Shep Messing's usual attempts at analysis. Luckily, the Metros' attempts to score weren't any more successful than Messing's attempts at wit.

I'll be the first to admit that last night's game between D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls involved more traffic going toward United's goal than the other way. But you'd be forgiven after watching these highlights if you thought the field was entirely a one-way street, which simply wasn't the case. Despite trailing in both possession and attempts, the Black-and-Red actually put more shots on target than the visiting Metros. And despite being outplayed after the opening minutes - seriously, don't just sit back against a team like this one, k? - los Capitalinos held on for the win.

We'll have more on last night's ulcer-inducing win today and tomorrow, but take to the comments to let us know what you thought of the game after having time to sleep on it.

Meetup/Tailgate Post Mortem

And while I have you here, I just want to shout out everybody who made it to our tailgate/meetup yesterday and to say thanks for coming out. It was a real blast, and it was great to finally put faces to names like David Rusk, oldetymer, doom2, and both the Erics. (And there were more of you than that, too! Apologies if I missed you on this list - there were a lot of faces and names, and I'd been drinking a bit.) We had a surprise - and honestly not at all planned - guest appearance from former MLS MVP and D.C. United star Luciano Emilio (LuciGol!!), and a lot of good times. And I got deservedly called out exactly once for saying "Welcome in." All in all, it was entirely more successful than it had any right to be (not unlike the action inside RFK yesterday).

Thank you, all. I'm already looking forward to the next one.
