Another D.C. United Day in quick succession. D.C. United is hosting Toronto FC in
Hell uncharacteristically stereotypical Washington, D.C. weather today. I'll actually be at this one so keep an eye out for a Hess 14 jersey; if the wearer is 5 ft tall, congratulations, you found my wife and I'm likely somewhere nearby. Come say hi!
Location: Audi Field at Buzzard Point (Washington, D.C.)
4:00 6:30 PM ET
Where to Watch: NBC Sports Washington, TeleXitos, dcunited.com, ESPN+
Referee: Ismir Pekmic
League Form: D.C. United: L,D,W,L,W ; Toronto: L,L,L,L,L
Typing Toronto's form really tells a story. They're sitting at the bottom of the league tied with fellow basement dwellers Chicago and Vancouver. D.C. United's form has likewise been shaky, and Toronto did not have a midweek game to tire them, so the Reds may be looking to this match as a prime opportunity to turn their season around. Nevertheless, if you are the betting sort, D.C. United should be the favorite to win this home match.
Key Player: The thermometer. Kickoff temperature is expected to be around 92 degrees. Needless to say, this is hitting our region with the full weight of a body slamming Snorlax until Spring returns on Monday. I don't know where Toronto FC was yesterday, but hopefully D.C. United spent their day basking in the sun to make this kickoff weather seem a little less scary. I expect the temperature will keep things on the slower side, especially as the game drags on. Substitutions will be vital. Some early goals will go a long way to seeing the match play out in the winning team's favor.
Predicted Scoreline: 1-0 to the good guys. Since I'm in attendence, I expect to be nervous the entire time. I also think the players fear they'll be launched into the Anacostia if they let in another set piece goal, so today's the day they don't let that happen!
Come laugh at my prediction when it's proven wrong and let me know yours in the comments!
