Happy Wednesday, and it’s a D.C. United matchday as well! The team is in Columbus to take on the Columbus Crew in their first visit to the worst-named new stadium in a long time, Lower.com Field. Until then, here’s the news from yesterday.
Spain beat Japan on a goal by Marco Asensio in extra time, and Brazil took out Mexico on penalties to set the men’s Olympic football final. Mexico and Japan will battle for bronze.
Sweden and Canada will play for the gold medal, but it will also be during the middle of the day in Japan. Both teams have requested the final be moved to the evening when it’s less hot and humid.
Before that match, a reminder that early tomorrow morning, the USWNT will go for bronze against Australia. One more early wake up call!

Premier League teams will continue to show solidarity and bring awareness to racial abuse by taking a knee before the start of matches throughout the 2021-2022 season. They will also continue to wear their “No Room For Racism” patch on jerseys.
Big congrats to Yael Averbuch West, who will take over as the interim general manager for NJ/NY Gotham FC! Wishing her the best in her new role.
That’s it for today. Vamos United!
