Fantasy Focus: Don’t Mess Around

Opposition: Clowned

MLS: Minnesota United FC at Vancouver Whitecaps FC Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports

The leader this round was andyn15, with a score of 110 points.

At the top of the table, we have yet another change, as BL4CKnRED retook the overall lead by a margin of five points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

Zac MacMath (RSL, $4.9) led the goalkeepers with 10 points on the strength of a clean sheet. Right on his heels was the 9-point clean sheet trio of JT Marcinkowski (SJ, $7.2). Kenneth Vermeer (CIN, $5.4), and DCU’s Bill Hamid ($7.2).

Defenders

Philadelphia’s Kai Wagner ($7.8) scored a goal on the way to 14 points, leading the defenders ahead of Nashville’s Robert Castellanos ($4.8), who scored a goal of his own for 13 points. Florian Jungwirth (SJ, $6.1) rounded out the top three with a clean sheet and 11 points. The United defense was led by Antonio Alfaro ($5.1) with 10 points, followed by Andy Najar ($8.2) and Steven Birnbaum ($4.7) with 8, and Chris Odoi-Atsem ($4.1) with 1.

Midfielders

Cristian Dajome (VAN, $8.9) clowned Minnesota for two goals and 17 points, leading the midfielders and all players. Behind him was the 12-point pair of Emanuel Reynoso (MIN, $9.5), who had an assist, and Nani (ORL, $10.7), who had a goal and an assist. The D.C. midfield featured Julian Gressel ($9.1) with 5 points; Junior Moreno ($7.2) and Kevin Paredes ($5.5) with 3 points; and the trio of Felipe Martins ($4.0), Drew Skundrich ($4.8), and Yamil Asad ($5.4) with 1 point each. Moses Nyeman ($4.0) suffered the ignominy of scoring -1 point.

Forwards

Miami’s Gonzalo Higuain ($9.4) decided to run, and he scored two goals on the way to a position-leading 13 points. Trailing was the pair of Thiago Andrade (NY, $6.9) and Silvester van der Water (ORL, $6.4), who paired a goal with an assist for 10 points each. DCU’s scoring forwards were Yordy Reyna ($4.4) and Erik Sorga ($4.0) with 1 point each.

Looking Ahead

Minnesota, Vancouver, Seattle, and Colorado all play once, while everyone else plays twice. I’m looking at Eloy Room (CLB, $7.7) in goal at home against DCU and Atlanta, and in defense it’s Kyle Smith (ORL, $7.0) vs. Miami and @ Cincinnati. Smith’s teammate Nani is a great midfield option, and at forward save some money with Ricardo Pepi (DAL, $6.6) @ Seattle and vs. Austin.
