Hello friends, it is another Thursday which means it is another day of Freedom Kicks. It is hot, and muggy, and cicaday, but that’s not going to get us down. A good friend of mine has seen multiple cicadas on the Metro, and they’re just trying to make it like we are. Let’s just emerge from the ground and scream like we never have in 17 years.
To the links!
Soccer Hall of Fame’s newest class includes Jaime Moreno and Kevin Payne but not Hope Solo
After so many years, the US Soccer Hall of Fame has finally decided to admit Jaime Moreno, one of the best players in the first two decades of MLS. We’ve been asking for this to happen for years, and yet I’m still gobsmacked that it has actually happened. It is buckwild it took this long, and all of the voters who didn’t for for Jaime should continue to be ashamed.
Hope Solo is the best goalkeeper in the history of the Women’s World Cup, and she deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, full stop. Just put her in there. Steve Cherundolo and Christie Pearce obviously deserve to be in there, so congrats to both of them.
Kevin Payne also got in, and overall I’m fine with that. He obviously helped build D.C. United from nothing at the beginning of MLS, and then there was another decade of problems for the team. But without Kevin Payne, there wouldn’t be a D.C. United, so hats off to him in that regard.
If you feel comfortable, you should go see the Washington Spirit!!!
Inter Miami’s roster violations were extreme, but bending MLS regulations is nothing new
These sanctions came a year too late, and it just continue to allow the high spending teams to push the envelope where no one else can.
That’s all I’ve got today, what’s up?
