D.C. United in MLS Team of the Week, Tigres win Liga MX Femenil final, and more: Freedom Kicks for 6/1/2021

Plus, as always, the latest King Kazu news

MLS: D.C. United at Inter Miami CF Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Morning folks! We don’t have a lot to talk about, what with D.C. United off for almost three weeks and the Washington Spirit not in action again until the weekend. However, Loudoun United plays the Pittsburgh Riverhounds tonight tomorrow, so you’ve still got some soccer to watch.

Let’s start with a good program from United, who are continuing their Critical Conversations series with Felipe Martins taking part in a discussion of mental health:

Paul Arriola made the league site’s team of the week, while Ola Kamara was named to the bench.

Going back to Loudoun, over the weekend their win at New Mexico United was marred with yet another incident of racist yelling from the stands. Here’s New Mexico’s supporters group calling for the incident to be investigated:

Update: As I’ve changed the opening paragraph, that Loudoun game is tomorrow, not tonight. I was writing just after midnight and I guess forgot how time and calendars work together when they denote a new day.

OL Reign trade Jasmyne Spencer to Houston Dash for 2022 third round draft pick | Sounder at Heart
We had an NWSL trade yesterday, with former Spirit attacker Jasmyne Spencer going from OL Reign to the Houston Dash. It’s a good move for her, as the Reign have added roughly 25 wide forwards in the last month while the Dash seem to have an open competition for minutes out on the left wing right now.

Long Live the King | Dead Ball Brothers
By now you all know I’m always going to link to things about King Kazu, and this podcast is about Kazuyoshi Miura, who is 54 and is still playing top-flight soccer with Yokohama FC. He is the greatest soccer player on the planet.

And, since this post is a little short due to a lack of big news, here’s more about Yokohama: they’re still in last in the J-League, but recently they’ve changed coaches and have started to turn things around just a little bit (1W-2D-1L in their last four games) as they approach the halfway point. Obviously I expect literally everyone reading this to collectively help will them to stay up for another year.

Now that I’ve once again dedicated significant site space to King Kazu, I’ll wrap it up. Have fun out there!
