Happy Wednesday, everyone. It was great to be back at Audi Field for the first time in almost 14 months for a soccer match last night. Got the energy back, so everyone continue to do right with masks, getting vaccinated, and taking care of your community so more of us can pack Audi Field this summer. Now, to the news:
The Washington Spirit couldn’t get one past NJ/NY Gotham FC, and a match that was entertaining at times and a chess match at others ended with a scoreless draw.
The NWSL schedule is out! For the Washington Spirit, home games will be split between Audi Field and Segra Field. I organized everything into a nice spreadsheet so it’s easy to see.
Christian Pulisic became the first USMNT player to score in a Champions League semifinal when he did so to open up scoring against Real Madrid. The match ended 1-1, with Pulisic’s goal giving Chelsea FC the away goal heading into the second leg next week.
In Concacaf Champions League, the Philadelphia Union absolutely mollywhopped Atlanta United in the first leg of the quarterfinals at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. They carry a 3-0 aggregate lead into the second leg.
Allie Long is on her way to Gotham FC after she was traded earlier today by OL Reign FC.
Bayern Munich have their manager, as Julian Nagelsmann will leave RB Leipzig this summer for Allianz Arena. Bayern is paying a 20 million euro fee for the manager, the largest ever.
USL will be shown throughout the Concacaf region as they agreed to a broadcast deal to bring the league to as many as 55 countries worldwide.
Stay cool out here in this heat, y’all!
