Fantasy Focus: Arango was his name-o

That was a huge performance in an even bigger win

MLS: San Jose Earthquakes at Los Angeles FC Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Welcome back to Fantasy Focus, back after a two-week round for reasons untold. This round’s leader was suzzers buzzers, with 107 points.

Also near the top was overall leader BL4CKnRED, who extended that lead to 34 points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

Minnesota’s Tyler Miller ($9.8) led the goalkeepers with 11 points on the strength of a clean sheet. Behind him was the 9-point duo of Brad Guzan (ATL, $9.2) and Pedro Gallese ($8.1), who each had a clean sheet of his own. DCU’s Bill Hamid ($6.5) scored 8 points.

Defenders

Alan Franco (ATL, $7.7) paired a clean sheet with an assist on the way to 15 points, leading the defenders ahead of Andrew Gutman (NYR, $8.8), who did the same for 13 points. Robin Jansson (ORL, $7.6) rounded out the top three with a clean sheet and 12 points. The D.C. defense was led by Donovan Pines ($5.6) with 10 points, followed by Steven Birnbaum ($5.7) with 8, Andy Najar ($7.7) with 2, and the pair of Joseph Mora ($4.0) and Chris Odoi-Atsem ($4.0) with 1 each.

Midfielders

Damir Kreilach (RSL, $10.1) tallied a goal and two assists on the way to 18 points, leading the midfielders, just ahead of Pedro Santos (CLB, $5.5), who did the same for 17 points. Kelyn Rowe’s (SEA, $4.7) 14 points came on three assists and were good enough for third. For United, Julian Gressel ($10.9) and Kevin Paredes ($5.3) scored 5 point each, ahead of Junior Moreno ($6.4) with 4, Russell Canouse ($5.8) with 3, and Drew Skundrich ($4.0) with 1.

Forwards

Cristian Arango (LA, $10.2) added an assist to two goals on the way to 19 points, leading the forwards and all players. Behind him were Darwin Quintero (HOU, $6.8), who scored 15 points on a goal and an assist, and Gyasi Zardes (CLB, $8.1), who scored 12 points on two goals. The scoring forwards for D.C. were Ola Kamara ($9.6) and Nigel Robertha ($5.3) with 2 points each, and Adrien Perez ($4.0) and Ramon Abila ($4.0) with 1 each.

Looking Ahead

Once again it’s easier to list the teams who play once, and those teams are Atlanta, the Red Bulls, RSL, Kansas City. Everyone else plays twice. In goal, I like Steve Clark’s (POR, $8.0) matchups vs. Vancouver and @ Colorado, and in defense I like Kai Wagner (PHI, $9.8) returning from his red card suspension to play @ Minnesota and vs. Nashville. In midfield, look at Luciano Acosta (CIN, $9.3) with games vs. Chicago and @ Miami, and at forward it’s hard to argue with Cristian Arango @ Dallas and Minnesota.
