D.C. United’s loss, expected goals, and Quinn: Freedom Kicks for 24 September 2020

Poetry, go!

MLS: D.C. United at Nashville SC Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

As fall begins to change the leaves, and as D.C. United continues that year-long streak of rocky play, my mind this morning is in poetry. Something about the way that feelings can be expressed differently there than in prose is speaking to me in this moment. So my charge to you is to go read a poem today, be it classics like Walt Whitman or Emily Dickinson, more modern giants like Mary Oliver or Sylvia Plath, or poets who are breaking out like Rupi Kaur and Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz.

Anyways, to the soccer links:

Set piece goal hands D.C. United 1-0 loss at Nashville SC - Black And Red United

That surely was a game of soccer.

After creating a couple more chances in their game against Toronto FC, D.C. United reverted back to their goal-less ways against Nashville.

If you didn’t watch the pre-game show, here’s Claudia Pagan’s interview with Felipe Martins as he begins his recovery towards next season.

Reyna will hopefully be available this weekend to try and jumpstart D.C. United’s moribund attack. Flores, however, has just gotten back to building up his fitness and is not yet in full training.

Just a reminder that we’re still doing all of this in the middle of a pandemic!

A great interview with former Washington Spirit player Quinn about being trans in sports.

That’s all I’ve got today, what’s up?
