D.C. United finds out their next three scheduled matches

We thought we’d be getting a full schedule, but all we know right now is what’s up through September 27

After days of rumors of a more in-depth announcement, MLS revealed its plans for the rest of September today, well into the month of September. D.C. United, like all other teams, will play three more games before the end of the month, including a first-ever meeting with Nashville SC.

Incorporating tomorrow’s game with the New York Red Bulls into the mix, United will have a chance to get on something resembling a roll. Three of their next four matches are at Audi Field, while their only road game is at Nashville, who currently sit behind the Black-and-Red in the Eastern Conference standings.

That said, United’s schedule cannot be classified as “easy.” Toronto FC (2nd place overall with 21 points) and a New England Revolution side that has already come to Buzzard Point and won this year are the other two opponents on the list.

While MLS was not prepared to announce the full schedule, leaving nine more games yet to be determined, they did outline the playoff schedule. The 18-team format previously announced remains unchanged, with ten teams from the expanded Eastern Conference and eight from the Western Conference qualifying for a postseason that will feature single-elimination games throughout.

The higher-seeded team will host all games, while the East’s format has been fleshed out. The top six in the East will qualify for what the league is calling Round 1, but for our purposes it might be better to call it a round of 16. The remaining four playoff teams from the East will pair off, with the 7th seed playing the 10th seed and the 8th facing the 9th. The winners of those games will advance to join the other six, with the lowest remaining seed playing the 1st place finisher and the other play-in winner facing the 2nd seed.

D.C. United’s known schedule is as follows:
