I’m a huge fan of the name Bayern Neverlusen, who led this round with 87 points, and it’s extremely dope because they didn’t pull any bench shenanigans.
It’s a thing of beauty. Meanwhile, Stan the Fan has taken the overall top spot in the league, with just a two point lead ahead of second place.
Positional Leaders
Goalkeepers
The duo of Quentin Westberg (TOR, $6.2) and Steve Clark (POR, $6.2) led the position with a clean sheet and 10 points each. Just behind them was David Bingham (LA, $8.0), who saved a penalty on the way to 8 points. DCU’s Bill Hamid ($6.4) scored 5 points.
Defenders
Minnesota’s Ike Opara ($7.0) scored two goals on the way to 17 points, leading the defenders and sharing the overall lead. Well behind him was the pair of Ali Adnan (VAN, $6.2) and Jakob Glesnes (PHI, $5.2) scored 10 points each, as Adnan earned a clean sheet, and Glesnes scored a goal. For United, Frederic Brillant ($6.2) led with 9 points, followed by Steven Birnbaum ($5.7) with 4, Oneil Fisher ($4.1) with 2, and Joseph Mora ($4.0) with 1.
Midfielders
Jan Gregus (MIN, $9.3) added a goal to two assists on the way to 17 points, leading the midfielders and sharing the overall lead with his teammate, Ike Opara. Meanwhile, Ezequiel Barco (ATL, $10.5) paired a goal with an assist for 13 points, and teammate Pity Martinez’s ($9.3) two assists helped him to 11 points. D.C.’s midfield was led by Yamil Asad ($8.0) with 8 points; followed by the trio of Julian Gressel ($10.4), Felipe Martins ($6.6), and Edison Flores ($8.4) with 4 points each; and the pair of Russell Canouse ($6.6) and Junior Moreno ($4.9) with 2 points.
Forwards
The duo of Maxi Urruti (MTL, $9.5), who scored two goals, and Zdeněk Ondrášek (DAL, $10.0), who had a goal and an assist, scored 13 points each. Hot on their heels, Khiry Shelton (SKC, $7.4) had a goal and an assist of his own for 12 points. For D.C., Erik Sorga ($6.1) scored 2 points, and Ola Kamara ($7.9) scored 1.
Looking Ahead
In round three and with an even number of teams, LAFC and Montreal are on bye, which would seem like a CONCACAF Champions League decision if NYC and Atlanta also got byes. I don’t even know. Anyway, in goal I like Quentin Westberg at home against Nashville, and keep riding Ike Opara in defense, at home against the Red Bulls. Jack Price (COL, $10.5) is a good option in midfield at Vancouver, and I like Jozy Altidore (TOR, $8.9) at forward.
