Fantasy Focus: Tread of the Class

Philadelphia Union players led every position but one

MLS: Toronto FC at Philadelphia Union Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

We’re in the home stretch of this truly bizarre season, with just two rounds to go. BL4CKnRED led this round with 126 points, expanding their overall lead at the top of the table to 49 points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

Jimmy Maurer (DAL, $8.3) led the position this round with 9 points on the strength of a clean sheet. Behind him was a quartet of clean-sheet goalkeepers, all tied on 8 points — Joe Willis (NSH, $8.7), Dayne St. Clair (MIN, $11.9), Tim Melia (SKC, $6.4), and Pablo Sisniega (LA, $6.9). DCU’s Bill Hamid ($4.6) scored 4 points.

Defenders

Philadelphia’s Mark McKenzie ($12.3) combined a goal, an assist, and a clean sheet on the way to 18 points, just ahead of his teammate Kai Wagner ($8.7), who scored 17 points on a clean sheet and two assists. Andreu Fontas (SKC, $6.4) rounded out the top three with 17 points on a clean sheet, a goal, and an assist. United’s backline featured Joseph Mora ($5.6) with 6 points, followed by Donovan Pines ($7.9) with 3, Chris Odoi-Atsem ($4.0) with 2, and Oneil Fisher ($4.0) with 1.

Midfielders

Jamiro Monteiro (PHI, $11.7) paired a goal with an assist, plus 7 attacking bonus points on the way to 20 points, leading the midfielders and all players. Eating his dust were Randall Leal (NSH, $7.1) with 14 points on a goal and an assist, and Lewis Morgan (MIA, $13.4) with an assist and 11 points. D.C.’s midfield was led by Julian Gressel ($7.4) with 9 points, followed by Russell Canouse ($5.4) with 8, Yamil Asad ($6.7) with 6, the pair of Junior Moreno ($7.0) and Kevin Paredes ($4.0) with 4, Edison Flores ($5.6) with 3, and Yordy Reyna ($4.0) with 1.

Forwards

Sergio Santos (PHI, $8.4) led all forwards with a hat trick and 18 points, while his teammate, Kacper Przybyłko ($11.6), had a hat trick of assists on the way to 14 points. Behind them was Romell Quioto (MTL, $11.9), who scored a goal and 10 points. Gelmin Rivas ($4.0) led the DCU forwards with 6 points, while Ola Kamara ($4.0) scored 3, and Erik Sorga ($4.0) scored 1.

Looking Ahead

I like Joe Willis in goal this round at Montreal and vs. Chicago, and Kai Wagner in defense vs. Chicago and at Columbus. Nicolas Lodeiro (SEA, $15.3) is worth it in your midfield for his game at Vancouver (and if not vs. Colorado), and at forward, without knowing how much Carlos Vela will play, I think Diego Rossi (LA, $10.0) is a good option vs. Houston and at San Jose.
