Holy crap, yesterday was a wild day. Let’s get right to it:
D.C. United grabs Julian Gressel from Atlanta United for a combination of GAM, TAM, FAM, WAM, and BLAM that could total $1.1 million if incentives are met. Helluva haul for a great young player that has the potential to lead the league in assists.
This move from the Black-and-Red to get Gressel, in addition to landing Ola Kamara and Yamil Asad last year and Edison Flores during the offseason, is telling fans that the team is trying to go for it all. Settling for 5th place and a 1st round playoff exit is not the expectation this year.
In Gressel, D.C. United is gaining a guy that has 20 goals and 36 assists. Charles Boehm breaks down all the numbers.
Atlanta fans are losing a fan favorite, but the team didn’t want to give him his chicken, as Marshawn Lynch would say, and D.C. was.
Carlos Bocanegra tries to sell this move to Atlanta fans. So far, it’s not working.
The secondary news of the day is that the LA Galaxy have finally inked Chicharito to a contract, signing him away from Sevilla. Let’s see how this helps the Galaxy in the Western Conference.
Edison Flores is looking to make a leap in 2020. DCU fans will like that, because if he’s successful, it means the team will also be really, really good.
FC Dallas will have Franco Jara join them as a Designated Player when the summer transfer window opens in July. He will stay at Pachuca until then.
A 3rd division team in Egypt has signed a 74-year-old, making him the oldest known professional soccer player in the world.
That’s it for now. Hit the comments and discuss, but don’t blink. You never know when other moves are coming!
