Hey, a little bit of everything for D.C. soccer this weekend!
Recaps of D.C. United’s 1-0 win over the Portland Timbers by us, WaPo, Flo and MLS (with more from them here). Stumptown Footy has the PTFC side of it.
Washington Spirit, Reign FC battle to thrilling 2-2 draw (us): Fun game to watch, less so as far as the Spirit’s playoff chances go. WaPo and Sounder at Heart with more.
Loudoun United loses lead, game in 2-1 loss to Memphis (us): Loudoun gamer? Check. Also, thumbs down old Yankee fan dot gif.
Meet the hardest-working mouth in MLS (WaPo): Goff looks at Mr. MSL.
Loudoun United ‘what we wanted’ as a path for D.C. United’s academy players (us): Loudoun feature? Check. Seriously though, am pleased with how this turned out.
Everton Women’s Chloe Kelly puts forth an early candidate for Goal of the Season (Royal Blue Mersey): Yep, this is bananas.
Tough-guy DeLeon contributing big to TFC despite ‘battling’ physical issues (Toronto Sun): A few interesting nuggets in this Nick DeLeon feature.
Unruly fans cause Rising FC match to be abandoned for player safety (Arizona Sports): So the USL team in Phoenix was rolling towards a 4-1 win late, but more importantly some in the supporters’ section threw beer cans at players on the field, causing the match to be abandoned. USL rules called for the game to be abandoned and the result being what it was, Phoenix’ win streak extended to 20. Still, ugly scenes.

Second, Christian Gomez officially called it a career Saturday at 44, coming off in the 10th minute for Nueva Chicago in Argentina’s Premier B. This covers his last couple of minutes, his coming off and subsequent pitch side interview:
