Happy Wednesday folks. Just a few links from yesterday, so let’s get into it:
USL reached a deal with ESPN and ESPN+ to show all their matches through 2022. This includes all USL Championship and USL League One matches. The deal will see teams get money for the first time ever from a media rights deal.
Bury FC and Bolton Wanderers failed to find someone to sell the club by an EFL-imposed deadline, and now Bury has been expelled from the English Football League. Bolton has been granted an additional 14 days to find a buyer and avoid the same fate. Sad times in England for fans of both clubs.
Wayne Rooney has been suspended an additional match for the red card he picked up against the New York Red Bulls, and he will miss D.C. United’s important match this weekend against the Montreal Impact.
D.C. United is struggling mightily, and it sounds like they closed the doors and hashed it out as a team. Let’s see if that leads to them turning it around this weekend.
Carli Lloyd smashed a 55-yard field goal during an invite to preseason practice with the Philadelphia Eagles. Well, a couple teams wanted her to seriously consider playing in their final preseason game this week. Lloyd can’t due to the United States Women’s National Team playing Portugal in Philadelphia Thursday, but she sounds like she may try to give the NFL a shot next year.
That’s it’s for today. Hit the comments and discuss all the news of the day!
