Atlanta United held off Minnesota United to win the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup by a 2-1 score. Pity Martinez was the hero for the Five Stripes, who have won their 2nd major trophy in 9 months.
USL Reaches New Rights Agreement with ESPN, ESPN+ | USL
USL reached a deal with ESPN and ESPN+ to show all their matches through 2022. This includes all USL Championship and USL League One matches. The deal will see teams get money for the first time ever from a media rights deal.
Bury expelled from Football League; Bolton has 14 days | NBC Sports
Bury FC and Bolton Wanderers failed to find someone to sell the club by an EFL-imposed deadline, and now Bury has been expelled from the English Football League. Bolton has been granted an additional 14 days to find a buyer and avoid the same fate. Sad times in England for fans of both clubs.
D.C.’s Rooney suspended for additional game | ESPNFC
Wayne Rooney has been suspended an additional match for the red card he picked up against the New York Red Bulls, and he will miss D.C. United’s important match this weekend against the Montreal Impact.

Lloyd serious about NFL try, but not until 2020 | ESPNFC
Carli Lloyd smashed a 55-yard field goal during an invite to preseason practice with the Philadelphia Eagles. Well, a couple teams wanted her to seriously consider playing in their final preseason game this week. Lloyd can’t due to the United States Women’s National Team playing Portugal in Philadelphia Thursday, but she sounds like she may try to give the NFL a shot next year.
