It’s Wednesday folks, which means hopefully it won’t be super hot. Loudoun United’s first midweek match at Segra Field is also tonight, so it’s a good chance to check out the stadium if you didn’t last weekend. Before that, the news:
The Seattle Sounders brought in a ton of new owners. Included in that new ownership group is R&B singer Ciara and her husband Russell Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks quarterback, and rapper Macklemore. It’s really cool to see celebrities outside the sport get invested in local soccer.
U.S. Soccer is hoping to launch a bid to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup. The United States, if successful, could host the World Cup in 2026 and 2027, followed by the 2028 Olympics.
The Houston Dynamo let go of head coach Wilmer Cabrera late yesterday, and former D.C. United player and assistant coach Davy Arnaud will take over as the interim coach.
Atlanta United will take on Club América in tonight’s Campeones Cup, and it should be a huge crowd once again. Will Atlanta go for it against América?
Frank De Boer decided to open his mouth and say that equal pay for women in soccer is “ridiculous.” Yo Frank...stop talking.
Liverpool and Chelsea meet today in the UEFA Super Cup, but the cool thing that will take place today is that France’s Stephanie Frappart will become the first woman to ref a major European men’s game. Kudos to her, and may the match be a fun one to watch.
That’s all for today. See some of you out in Loudoun tonight.
