D.C. soccer losses, Audi Field benefits & more: Freedom Kicks for 7/22/19

Also, perhaps the best movie of 2018 is on video now.

Hi. So I guess the soccer wasn’t good this weekend? I got a little preoccupied.

Recaps of D.C. United’s 2-0 loss to Atlanta United from us, WaPo, Flo and MLS. Dirty South Soccer has the defending Champs’ perspective. I don’t have anything to really add, other than between this and Loudoun United’s 2-0 loss to Indy Eleven, you have two games lost by identical 2-0 scores, giving up goals in the last 10 minutes of games, on the road, playing in a football stadium (Indy plays at Lucas Oil Stadium home of the Indianapolis Colts). Organizational consistency!

Spirit winless in five after 2-1 defeat against Houston Dash (us): Mallory Pugh had the chance to steal a point for the Washington Spirit but alas, the Dash kept things on their end. Dynamo Theory has more from the opposition.

Residents urged to make full use of community benefits from D.C. United (The Southwester): And they should!

New York Red Bulls 2019 Away Kit to Be Black & Red (Footy Headlines): First, lol, second, first Adidas into the goddamn sun.

Why no one saw “Widows” & Why it’s Superb (First Showing): I don’t know if it was because it came out in the wake of Ocean’s 8, but Widows is a similar concepted heist film, but that’s about it in terms of similarity. It’s got Viola Davis in the lead, it’s directed by Steve McQueen, and it’s a tale about revenge, isolation, desperation and race, set against the Chicago background. The two videos in here get into the reasons why it may have got lost (the first is spoiler free, the second is not) and, now that it’s been out on video for a bit, deserves your attention.

Anyway, that’s all from me, stay cool and/or hydrated today.
