Today the MLS Players Union released the first salary numbers of 2019 as of June 1 updated salary figures of 2018 (they can be viewed here), which include the year-long salaries for D.C. United’s offseason acquisitions, including a full year of Wayne Rooney, which amounts to $3.5 million base salary and $3,507,500 guaranteed compensation. The list looks at what the players are paid, so it does not include things like D.C. only being responsible for minimal salaries for Chris McCann and Chris Seitz, or carrying most of David Ousted’s salary ($261,182/$361,136) to get him off the books and to the Chicago Fire’s employ. Other random thoughts:
Bill Hamid’s 2017 salary ($350,000/$395,500) takes a nice bump up,
Russell Canouse’s salary is unchanged from 2018,
Zoltan Stieber’s salary takes a tumble and
Junior Moreno could be the best bargain in MLS.
