Loudoun United has announced that Audi Field, home of their parent club D.C. United, will be the venue for three of their first five home games in USL Championship play. Loudoun’s games on Buzzard Point include a May 3rd clash with Bethlehem Steel FC and a match against fellow expansion side Hartford Athletic on May 19th, before later facing perennial contenders Louisville City FC on July 28th. All three games will kick off at 7:30pm.
We’ve known for months that Loudoun would have to play some of their home games somewhere other than Leesburg, with Audi Field always being a likely solution. These games fill open dates on the Audi Field calendar, with D.C. playing at home the day after the games against Bethlehem and Louisville. The game against Hartford will come in the midst of a two-and-a-half week road swing.
Officials from both the team and from Loudoun County expect to have the stadium ready right around August 1st. Loudoun’s first home game at their actual home stadium is scheduled for August 9th against Charlotte Independence.
Two games — June 15th’s match against Indy Eleven and June 28th’s faceoff with Atlanta United 2 — remain without an officially announced venue. Those games are probably going to be played in Fairfax at George Mason Stadium, which unsurprisingly is George Mason University’s soccer stadium.
