Hi there. Was the football fun?
“Il me reste un goût amer” (L’Equipe, $): Luciano Acosta’s first remarks since the transfer to PSG fell through appeared in French media, and aside from the medical NOT being done (counter to stateside reports), he’s still bummed a little, but knows it’s not the end of the world. Assuming my French is right, which it’s very not.
Wayne Rooney suffers minor injury and D.C. United rookie scores in first preseason friendly (WaPo): Goff is down there are saw it. Or you can read our witnessless gamer instead. Your choice but ours is more fun.
Donovan Pines left school to sign with D.C. United but continues seeking knowledge (WaPo): Looking forward to seeing this kid in Loudoun, assuming he gets there.
Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins resigns (BBC): If you haven’t caught up on Swansea City (which D.C. United owners Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan also own), Swansea were relegated last May, are middle of the table in the Championship, and following a window were more (some) players went out than came in (none), punctuated by a transfer of a young player to a team that fell through (sound familiar?), Chairman Huw Jenkins handed in his resignation after 17 years with the club, and following months of backlash from fans who think club assets are being stripped to fund D.C. United which, do what you wish with that theory. Anyway, Swans fans, with one scalp claimed, think they’ll be doing the same with Levien and Kaplan, starting by coordinating protests at games, starting this week against Millwall. Good times indeed.
Anyway, your head is probably hurting from all the...guacamole at your Super Bowl party, so let’s have some fun today, OK?
