Loudoun United sign Kyle Murphy

Another player with a long DCU look goes to Loudoun.

Loudoun United announced this morning that they have signed forward Kyle Murphy. The 26-year-old forward had been on trial with parent club D.C. United, and appeared as a second-half substitute in the Black-and-Red’s 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Union last night. Murphy also appeared in the two preseason games D.C. has played against USL side Bethlehem Steel FC and last week against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Murphy becomes the club’s sixth signing, and joins his third USL side. He appeared for Rio Grande Valley FC in 2016-17, appearing in 55 games and scored 10 goals. He played for San Antonio FC in 2018 and scored 1 goal in 16 appearances. He will presumably compete with fellow former D.C. trialist (and current Loudoun player) Shinya Kadono for minutes at forward, though Kadono had been seeing some time in midfield in preseason for D.C. and may assume this role in Loudoun.

Kadono is presumably available for Loudoun’s scrimmage today against Bethlehem, which will be at Evergreen Sportsplex, near Loudoun’s USL stadium site of Bolen Park. The game will be at 2pm and is open to the public.
