Fantasy Focus: Rudy, Rudy, Urruti

And also Vako, I guess

MLS: Houston Dynamo at FC Dallas Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

It was a close shave this round, but Demonbarbers’ 154 points led the round by just one point.

As you can see, there were a lot of points to be had at forward and in the midfield. MILLERtime When WYNNE’n is still ahead overall, with a 41-point lead.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

BILL HAMID ($7.5) shared a three-way lead with 12 points on the strength of an assist (!). Alongside him was Andre Blake (PHI, $6.7), who had an assist, and some dude named Luis Robles (NYR, $8.3), who had a clean sheet and also a horrid 3-0 defeat to Montreal.

Defenders

Rod Fanni (MTL, $6.2) led the defenders with 17 points on a goal and a clean sheet, while his teammate Bacary Sagna ($5.5) did the same for 14 points and third place. Between them was Larrys Mabiala (POR, $7.9) with a clean sheet and 16 points. The United defense was led by Steven Birnbaum ($6.8) with 7 points, followed by Joseph Mora ($6.2) with 5, Kofi Opare ($5.8) with 4, Frederic Brillant ($5.0) with 2, and Oneil Fisher ($6.4) with 1.

Midfielders

San Jose’s Vako ($10.5) put up three goals and an assist over two games for 26 points, leading all midfielders and splitting the lead among players. Trailing him was Albert Rusnak (RSL, $10.8), who did the same for 20 points, and Santiago Mosquera (DAL, $7.5) with three goals and 19 points. For D.C., Luciano Acosta ($10.5) had 16 points, followed by Russell Canouse ($6.8) with 11, Paul Arriola ($6.9) with 9, the pair of Junior Moreno ($6.9) and Zoltan Stieber ($7.4) with 6, and Ulises Segura ($4.5) with 4.

Forwards

Maxi Urruti (DAL, $7.3) added three assists to his lone goal on the way to 26 points, leading all forwards and joining Vako atop the overall leaderboard. Carlos Vela (LA, $10.6) scored two goals and had an assist on the way to 19 points and second place, while Wayne Rooney (DCU, $11.3) had a goal and two assists for 18 points. Darren Mattocks ($5.0) was the other scoring forward for DCU, with 2 points.

Looking Ahead

This is a weird round coming up. It’s easier to list the teams that are playing than the ones that aren’t: NYCFC, New England, D.C., Kansas City, Portland, Orlando, and Colorado. Everyone else is on bye, and NYCFC plays twice. I’m naming Maxi Moralez (NY, $10.9) my captain in the midfield, and Sean Johnson (NY, $6.7) is a good goalkeeping pick for their home matches against NE and DCU. I like Portland’s Julio Cascante ($6.3) as a cheap defender at home against Colorado, and Diego Rubio (SKC, $9.2) at forward at home against Orlando.
