D.C. United versus North Carolina FC lineup: Reserves en masse

The reserves will try and make their case against NCFC

MLS: D.C. United at San Jose Earthquakes Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

D.C. United takes on North Carolina FC tonight in the fourth round of the US Open Cup. Ben Olsen typically rotates as many players as possible, to give his starters a rest, and I think that this year will be no exception. However, given the amount of injuries on the team, especially to some key reserves, it looks like some starters will have to take the field.

On the back line, injuries to fullbacks necessitate the starting of Steve Birnbaum and Oniel Fisher, both of whom are starters or who have started recently. Birnbaum is younger than Frederic Brillant, so he gets the nod in the middle. Due to the injuries to Taylor Kemp, Chris Odoi-Atsem, and Nick DeLeon, Jalen Robinson will be deployed at right back.

In the middle, Jared Jeffrey and Ian Harkes will play in front of Junior Moreno, giving Luciano Acosta, Paul Arriola, and Chris Durkin a break. Moreno will also be looking to reclaim his spot ahead of Durkin, who played poorly in his last game.

On the front line, Patrick Mullins will start in the middle, with Bruno Miranda and Dane Kelly out wide. In the attack, this may look like a 4-3-3, and settle back into a 4-5-1 when the team is playing defense.

Who do you want to see Ben Olsen run out against their USL opponents?
