The last day before the start of the World Cup begins with serious fireworks.

So, I write this early this morning after waking up yesterday in Zurich, flying Zurich to Lisbon to NYC, then to a bus back to DC that arrived at 4:00am. I was up after about an hour of sleep to watch the 2026 World Cup vote, but this is what we do for you all! Bear with me if there is some excitement coupled with lack of sleep. Here we go:

The United States, Mexico, and Canada will host the 2026 World Cup, the first men’s World Cup since 1994 to be contested in North America!

Spain fire Lopetegui in huge shock on eve of World Cup | NBC Sports

Yesterday, Real Madrid announced that they would be hiring Spain coach Julen Lopetegui after the World Cup ended. This morning, Spain fired the coach, a bombshell on that occurs two days before they open the 2018 World Cup against European champions Portugul (and Cristiano Ronaldo). Holy hell.
