Hi, so I’ve been basically sleeping for most of yesterday because of a stomach bug and am not completely sure if I got everything so if I didn’t, etc etc:
Recaps of D.C. United’s 1-1 draw with LAFC from us, WaPo, MLS and Angels on Parade (with more from them here). Strange stuff, the VAR.
Despite 2nd half goals, Spirit fall to Dash (us): A game that saw Mallory Pugh have a PK that was saved combined with Rachel Daly’s pair of goals saw the Houston Dash beat the Washington Spirit 3-2, putting them 8th in the NWSL table. Dynamo Theory has more.
We Are Unable To Explain (TLO): Full marks to Real Madrid for beating Liverpool 3-1 but let’s be honest, there’s a hell for guys like Sergio Ramos for fouling and injuring nice guys like Mohamed Salah, right? Managing Madrid has more, along with Jonathan Wilson from SI, Gab Marcotti from ESPN and Jonathan Liew from the Independent.
Barahona podría ser el Cuarto salvadoreño en MLS 2018 (AS): Ivan Barahona is trialing with D.C. United this week in the hopes of landing a deal. The 23-year-old midfielder from El Salvador wrapped up a campaign with CD Dragon after playing the last three seasons with Sonsonate. Given that D.C. is kind of full of a) central midfielders and b) has no international spots to play with, I’d imagine this is a reach, but you now know stuff you presumably didn’t know before.
Hamid reflects on what he’s learned during his time in Denmark so far (Philly.com): Bill Hamid chats about his last 7 months since D.C. United.
Lavelle returns to the field (Equalizer): The Spirit’s Rose Lavelle made her debut this week against Sky Blue after being out for 8 months, and she shared her thoughts.
Wallace will represent Costa Rica at the World Cup (WaPo): Goff profiles local kid done good, former DCUer (and current NYCFC man) Rodney Wallace.
Ed. Here are more Wayne Rooney links, if you’re into that kind of thing.
After Goff recounted Roo’s 2 days in DC, and Ben Olsen seemed hopeful a deal could get done in the next week to 10 days.
Ed. Resume sanity!
Finally, I loved the BBC show the Young Ones. I watched it as a kid (after 120 Minutes I think?) and still laugh at it now. And I never knew about a Ring-style fifth roommate and my mind is blown up.
