D.C. United vs. Columbus Crew lineup: Time to bust the slump

Can the guys get their first three points?

D.C. United takes on the Columbus Crew this weekend at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. After a week off and with no wins so far this season, three points are desperately needed. With players like Junior Moreno and Russell Canouse coming back to full training, Ben Olsen will have almost all of his options available to him.

The lock so far this season has been in central midfield, where none of the combinations used so far have been able to put together a dominant performance. Russell Canouse has started in full training this week, and if he can go 60 minutes I would want Ben Olsen to start him. However, I don’t think he’ll be there this week; in two weeks, though, I hope to see him on the field. Given that, I think it will be Chris Durkin and Ulises Segura together in central midfield, both supporting Luciano Acosta (unless he’s held back because the game is on turf).

The other question, as always, is about who will lead the line from the forward position. Despite the frustrating play so far, Darren Mattocks still seems to have the leg up over Patrick Mullins, who has not wrested the job away from Mattocks in his substitute appearances. However, these two, Dane Kelly, and Bruno Miranda all need to push each other and get the best out of each other to help keep the team within striking distance until the rumored forward help comes.

The back line should be the same as last time, with Nick DeLeon, Frederic Brillant, Steve Birnbaum, and Joseph Mora all in front of David Ousted. The backline has not been the problem overall, though some of the players have had hiccups here and there.

What do you want to see Ben Olsen do this weekend?
