The Major League Soccer Players’ Association released their biannual list of salaries for the members of their organization, and D.C. United’s unsurprisingly finds Wayne Rooney at the top, at $2.78M. That number is prorated for the amount of time he was here this season, so expect it to go up to the rumored numbers (around $6M) in the first salary dump of next year.
Right behind Rooney, mere pennies under $1M, is Zoltan Stiber; Stibi has been both a starter and a substitute this year, and while he has been great at times the team likely looks for more consistency at that number. Rounding out the top five are Paul Arriola, Luciano Acosta, and Steven Birnbaum, all of whom deserve the salaries that they are getting paid.
The best deals on the team right now are Bill Hamid’s prorated salary at $93K and Chris Durkin’s homegrown deal coming in at $89K. The oft-injured Vytas has a large number at $271K, but he was a need when they acquired him and may move on after this season.
Around the league, the highest payed players are Sebastian Giovinco, Michael Bradley, and Carlos Vela, although if the rumors are to be believed Atlanta United may be about to shatter those numbers. You can find the whole list of D.C. United players below!
