Fantasy Focus: Canadian Two-Step

Look to the north

Rye_rocks1 led the league this round with a stout 93 points. Blerim Dzemaili (MTL, $9.2) led the team with 16 points on the strength of two goals. Supporting him were captain Nicolas Lodeiro (SEA, $11.5) with 14 points on an assist, and Ben Sweat (NYC, $4.9), who scored 11 points on a clean sheet and an assist. !BL4CKnRED now leads by 59 points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

Tim Howard (COL, $6.0) tallied a clean sheet and 10 points, leading the goalkeepers. Four players earned a clean sheet and scored 9 points on the way to a tie for second place — Tyler Deric (HOU, $5.3), Sean Johnson (NYC, $5.8), Nick Rimando (RSL, $6.2), and Stefan Frei (SEA, $6.7). Bill Hamid ($5.5) scored 4 points for DCU.

Defenders

Justin Morrow (TOR, $7.0) somehow scored twice on the way to 16 points, leading the defenders and tying for the overall lead. Meanwhile, Dallas teammates Atiba Harris ($5.2) and Hernan Grana ($6.0) each earned a clean sheet on the way to 12 and 11 points, respectively. The D.C. defense was led by Chris Odoi-Atsem ($4.3) with 5 points, followed by Sean Franklin ($4.9) and Kofi Opare ($4.3) with 3, and Steve Birnbaum ($5.3) with 2.

Midfielders

Blerim Dzemaili’s 16 points lead the midfielders and tied him for the overall lead. Ignacio Piatti (MTL, $11.2) and Marky Delgado (TOR, $6.2) completed the Canadian midfield sweep with 13 points each, with both scoring a goal and assisting another. The United midfield featured Marcelo Sarvas ($6.8) with 5 points (and somehow avoiding the error-leading-to-a-goal penalty), the duo of Luciano Acosta ($8.3) and Nick DeLeon ($5.6) with 4 points, Jared Jeffrey ($5.0) with 3, and the pair of Julian Buescher ($5.4) and Paul Arriola ($8.9) with 1 point.

Forwards

Alberth Elis (HOU, $8.5) had a goal and an assist on the way to 14 points, leading the forwards, while his teammate Vicente Sanchez ($6.2) did the same for 10 points. Ola Kamara’s (CLB, $10.6) goal and 9 points were good for a tie with David Villa. Three DCU forwards scored 1 point each — Deshorn Brown ($7.7), Patrick Mullins ($8.1), and Bruno Miranda (6.0)

Looking Ahead

Chicago and Montreal play twice, while Atlanta and LA are on bye. With two home games (CHI & RSL), Evan Bush (MTL, $5.5) looks like an interesting goalkeeping play, while Colorado’s Jared Watts ($5.2) is worth a look in defense at home against DCU. Ignacio Piatti’s scored 13 points in two straight starts since returning his absence, so you should use him in the midfield, and at forward go with Clint Dempsey (SEA, $10.0) at home against Minnesota, especially since he put up two goals, an assist, and 18 points the last time he played the Loons.
