Fantasy Focus: Pay it forward

There’s more than one way to the top.

The leading scorer this round over all of Fantasy MLS scored 128 points. Our league leader this round, Murk Mode FC, scored 124. Captain Nemanja Nikolic (CHI, $10.8) led the team with 32 points on two goals and an assist. Supporting were Blerim Dzemaili (MTL, $9.0) with a goal, an assist, and 15 points, and Joao Meira (CHI, $6.6), who had 12 points on a clean sheet and an assist. !BL4CKnRED‘s overall lead is up to 112 points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

Alec Cann (ATL, $4.6) posted a clean sheet and an assist on the way to 12 points, leading all goalkeepers. Meanwhile, Matt Lampson (CHI, $4.9) had a clean sheet and 10 points, while the pair of Joe Bendik (ORL, $5.2) and Andre Blake (PHI, $6.1) each had a clean sheet and 9 points. Travis Worra ($4.4) scored 1 point for DCU.

Defenders

Chris Duvall (MTL, $4.6) paired a clean sheet with a goal to lead his position with 15 points. Joao Meira’s 12 points were good for second, while three players tied for third with 11 points — Montreal teammates Laurent Ciman ($6.1) and Kyle Fisher ($4.6) each had a clean sheet, while Alexander Callens ($5.2) scored a goal. The D.C. defense featured Steve Birnbaum ($5.7), Taylor Kemp ($5.5) and Kofi Opare ($4.3) with 2 points each, and Chris Odoi-Atsem ($4.4) and Chris Korb ($4.5) with 1.

Midfielders

Blerim Dzemaili’s 15 points led the position, while Marlon Hairston (COL, $6.9) scored two goals and 14 points. Tied for third was a trio of players who scored 11 points — Matt Polster (CHI, $5.8) and Haris Medunjanin (PHI, $8.5) each had two assists, while Roland Lamah (DAL, $8.0) scored two goals. DCU’s midfield was led by Luciano Acosta ($8.3) with 5 points, followed by Ian Harkes ($5.7) and Patrick Nyarko ($7.9) with 4, Lloyd Sam ($8.1) and Marcelo Sarvas ($6.8) with 3, and Lamar Neagle ($7.2) with 1.

Forwards

While Nemanja Nikolic’s 16 points came on two goals and an assist, they were equaled by Kevin Doyle (COL, $8.0) with one goal and two assists, and they both shared the positional and overall lead. Rounding out the top three was Hector Villalba (ATL, $10.1), with two goals and 14 points. For United, both Jose Ortiz ($6.6) and Deshorn Brown ($7.9) scored 1 point.

Looking Ahead

Everyone plays once this week, with games taking place between Tuesday and Thursday before the Gold Cup break. With DCU in Frisco, use FC DallasJesse Gonzalez ($4.9) in goal. Don’t be scared off by Ike Opara’s (SKC, $6.4) 4-point defensive performance against Portland, because Philadelphia is coming to Kansas City, and the Union are not particularly threatening on the road. In midfield, Miguel Almiron (ATL, $9.9) is a must at home against San Jose, and don’t leave out Maximiliano Urruti (DAL, $9.6) at forward, with four goals in his last five games.
