2017 Gold Cup USMNT roster, DCU/Spirit/Kickers recaps, and more: Monday Freedom Kicks

And a new world record in soccer was set!

Hi, this weather is nice, isn’t it?

Recaps of D.C. United’s 1-0 loss to the Philadelphia Union by us (with more from us here), MLS and WaPo. Brotherly Game has the Chester news. They also have detail on the overturned Luciano Acosta red card which includes a shot at New York Red Bulls player Felipe Martins. Hey Dave Kasper, can we sign Haris Medunjanin to a DP deal? WaPo has some more.

Ordega goal leads Spirit to 1-0 win against Thorns (us): Francisca Ordega scored the game’s only goal as the Washington Spirit beat the Portland Thorns. The Spirit remain in 8th in the NWSL, 2 points ahead of the Houston Dash and 1 behind the Orlando Pride. More from WaPo and Stumptown Footy.

Kickers fall 2-0 to Charlotte (us) - The Kickers continue to generally not score also, and are tied for last in the Eastern Conference, not having won a game since April 22. But hey, Chris Durkin plays Wednesday in the Open Cup!

Bill Hamid named to the USMNT’s 2017 Gold Cup roster (us) - He could use a break from here. WaPo...has more.

Alhaji Kamara signs with Al-Taawoun FC (us) - After seeing Goff’s tidbit that the transfer cost $250,000 (which D.C. will see about $165k of), for a guy who was written off medically 15 months ago? Damn good bit of business. That it essentially cancels out the money given to the Houston Dynamo to get the top allocation order spot and claim Deshorn Brown makes it even better. Here’s hoping Superkam does better than the last AFCON player D.C. signed. Hey, speaking of which...

FIFA bans Ghana defender Inkoom for 1 year because of debt (AP) - Former DCU player Samuel Inkoom in a bit of hot water with some ramifications on his career.

‘Better Call Saul’ and how to make a successful prequel (Film School Rejects) - Let’s put aside for a second that this show as a companion yet standalone to Breaking Bad is one of the best things going on TV. Producers Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould have made Bob Odenkirk and Michael McKean, two guys with decades of proven acting and sketch comedy work, into more than capable dramatic actors in this character-driven series. Fuck Tarantino, I want to see how they cast something.

Oh, and if you thought Azteca was bad at altitude, this is better:

Anyhow, enjoy the day.
