DMV pro soccer recaps, USMNT jersey leaks & more: Monday Freedom Kicks

This is a little more serious than usual.

Hi. Off we go:

Recaps of Toronto FC’s 2-0 win over D.C. United from us (with more from us here), MLS and WaPo. Waking The Red has the GTO take.

Ordega’s goal helps Spirit to 1-1 tie at Chicago - Black And Red United: Francisca Ordega helped celebrate Caprice Dydasco’s return to the roster by scoring as the Washington Spirit drew with the Chicago Red Stars, putting them 8th in the NWSL.

Tayou Scores on Debut in Stoppage Time (Kickers): Down a level, midweek signing Franck Tayou scored in stoppage time so the Kickers drew with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The Kickers, winless since April 22, are 13th int the 15-team Eastern Conference.

Harkes continues a family tradition in D.C. (MLS): The dot com looks at Ian Harkes continuing things Harkes-esque.

Canadian soccer goalie Stephanie Labbé relishes mental health challenges (CBC Sports - Soccer): The Spirit keeper shares her thoughts about her thoughts.

New USMNT Gold Cup jersey leaked (Stars and Stripes FC): I like it and will probably buy it. Put your complaints about the stars to the side.

EXCLUSIVE: Whitecaps youth residency program player allegedly sexually assaulted by teammates, mother claims (Globalnews.ca): The Vancouver Whitecaps unveiled a Development Center Facility early in the week; late in the week, this news.

Venezia FC and the journey back to relevance (These Football Times): Several of us here know and are friends with Sonya Kondratenko, son of (I believe) Tony, both with their own contributions to Maryland Soccer. She has since gone from Howler Magazine to working for Venezia. Seeing their promotion to Serie B warms the heart, as does this story.

D.C. United is planning to sell forward Alhaji Kamara (Washington Post): So at this point, Kamara is definitely in Portugal as his Instagram shows:

Past that, buying someone on a low end deal and getting a transfer fee from them? Good business, and you get some money from it. That’s the shot.

Blåvitt-anfallaren om framtiden: "Mentalt redo för nästa steg" (Fotbollskanalen): So I saw this rumor kicking around a week or so ago saying that D.C. United were looking at a striker from Sweden named Mikael Boman, currently playing for Goteborg. Call this the chaser, maybe.

Oh, and if you can, please adopt the cats I had to surrender back to the local SPCA (my 7-month old recently tested positive for a severe allergic reaction to cat dander), or at the very least, pass it around to those who are considering. I can answer whatever questions there are about their health, and would like to find them a good home (where ideally I can occasionally come to see them).
