D.C. United gets an improbable win, and DMV soccer recaps abound: Monday Freedom Kicks

Also, Christian Gomez (still) has a posse.

MLS: D.C. United at Atlanta United FC Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Well to be fair, Jason and I called a 3-1 result, so you welcome family.

Recaps of and reactions to D.C. United’s 3-1 win over Atlanta United FC by us (with more from us here), MLS (with more from them here, and a nice summation by Matt Doyle here), and WaPo. Dirty South Soccer has the ATLosers side of things. I’ll also note to check in to (and like) our Facebook page as Steven Streff was onsite again and has a little piece of video that not many people see these days.

Steve Birnbaum talks D.C., Europe, and getting back into the USMNT (Fox Sports): This covers a few things, including Steve moving within the city limits, and is worth checking out. In between that and Goff’s interview with him, you should be covered.

First, knee surgery. Then, a blood clot. (WaPo): Goff Chronicles Rob Vincent’s setback, one which thankfully isn’t genetic and can be overcome.

Bad start dooms Washington Spirit in 1-0 loss to visiting Houston Dash (us): The Spirit dressed 16 Saturday night and did make a game of it at times, but fell to Houston. They share the cellar with the Orlando Pride, and have scored once in three games so far.

Inter 0-1 Napoli: Sadly Yet Another Loss (Serpents of Madonnina): In partner club news, Inter Milan is pretty much done as far as Champions League hops go with this loss to Napoli, as they’re in seventh now, three points back of AC Milan and only one point ahead of Fiorentina.

How the relegation battle looks after Swansea City keep survival hopes alive with a point at Manchester United (WalesOnline): In more partner club news, Gylfi Sigurdsson hit a nice free kick for Swans against ManU, but this came after a dodgy PK call for the Red Devils, and the result was a 1-1 draw. Swans remain in the relegation zone, 2 points behind Hull City and 4 ahead of Middlesbrough. Oddly enough, one-time DCU partner club Sunderland lost over the weekend and is set to go down to the Championship next year.

Down on the USL side, the Kickers lost to the Tampa Bay Rowdies 1-0, which wouldn’t be so bad, but former Colorado Rapids forward DeShorn Brown did this:

Down south, in Argentina, former D.C. United player Christian Gomez did this:

Should you wonder, Nueva Chicago (Gomito’s club since 2012) is second in the Argentina Primera B Nacional.

As an aside, pressure cooker hard boiled eggs are great and quick and the shell comes right off, so food for thought, or something cheesy like that.
