Fantasy Focus: Call on me, Valeri

It’s that man again

The leader this round was Sin City FC, with a score of 96 points. Diego Valeri (POR, $10.3) scored an armband-aided 30 points on the strength of two goals. Supporting him were Cyle Larin (ORL, $9.2), who scored two goals and 13 points, and Fanendo Adi ($9.6), who notched a goal and an assist on the way to 11 points. At the top of the league there’s a three-way tie for first between Benny's Army, MLS Muppets, and We Takes the Money, each with 177 points.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

Zack Steffen’s (CLB, $4.7) clean sheet helped him to 10 points, just ahead of fellow clean sheet earners Alex Bono (TOR, $4.7) and Alec Kann (ATL, $4.7), each of whom scored 9 points. D.C.’s Bill Hamid ($5.4) scored 3 points.

Defenders

A trio of defenders led with 11 points — Alex Crognale (CLB, $4.7), Florian Jungwirth (SJ, $5.6), and Michael Parkhurst (ATL, $5.7) — with Crognale and Parkhurst posting clean sheets, and Jungwirth scoring a goal. DCU’s defense featured Sean Franklin ($5.4) with 5 points, Taylor Kemp ($5.8) with 3, and Steve Birnbaum ($5.8) with 2.

Midfielders

Diego Valeri’s 15 points led all midfielders and all players. Teammate David Guzman ($7.7) paired a goal and an assist on the way to 14 points, and Rodney Wallace (NYC, $7.9) scored a goal and 11 points. For United, Nick DeLeon ($6.0) and Patrick Nyarko ($8.0) scored 4 points each; while Luciano Acosta ($8.5), Lloyd Sam ($8.4), and Marcelo Sarvas ($7.0) scored 3; Ian Harkes ($6.0) scored 2; and Lamar Neagle ($7.5) and Sebastien Le Toux ($6.5) scored 1.

Forwards

Three forwards scored two goals each on the way to a tie for the positional lead with 13 points — Maxi Urruti (DAL, $8.7), Cyle Larin, and Josef Martinez (ATL, $9.4). Jose Ortiz ($6.9) led the DCU forwards with 2 points, followed by Patrick Mullins ($8.4) with 1.

Looking Ahead

It’s round three, an international break, and somehow the MLS schedule features six teams playing — Columbus, Minnesota, New England, the Red Bulls, Portland, and Real Salt Lake. As you know, we’ve got unlimited transfers so make all the changes your heart desires. In goal, go with Luis Robles (NYR, $6.1), at home against a struggling RSL who definitely won’t score or beat the indomitable Red Bulls, and in defense take Alvas Powell (POR, $4.9) on the road against Columbus. Captain Diego Valeri in the midfield, and don’t leave Ola Kamara (CLB, $10.3) out of your forwards.
