Monday Freedom Kicks: Larger than Life

Recaps of the weekend for D.C. United and the Washington Spirit, and RIP Michael Cimino.

Hi. I do this with a fever of 101, so apologies if I don't catch the spirit of all things today. Oh, it's the opening of the secondary window too, so kept an eye on that.

Recaps of D.C. United's draw with Real Salt Lake by usMLS (and more from them here) and the Washington Post. The Salt Lake Tribune and RSL Soapbox have things from the RioT side of it. Oh, and here's DCU radio guy Joe Miller's call of the goal Friday night:

Late goals drive Washington Spirit to 2-0 win over FC Kansas City - Black And Red United: Without the Olympic-preparing Ali Krieger and Crystal Dunn, the Spirit keep their home success going, and remain in third, one point behind the Western New York Flash and six behind Portland Thorns FC, with games in hand on both clubs.

Crying Jordan MLS Logo Gallery - Brotherly Game: You may want to hang onto these. Just in case.

Youth Clubs File Class Lawsuit vs. MLS Players Union and Dempsey, Yedlin and Bradley: Not sure what to think of this yet, but it's definitely interesting (and the Union Executive Director's response).

Swansea City takeover given green light by the Premier League - Wales Online: Just keeping you up on the D.C. United Managing General Partner who, with the help of Landon Donovan, will be running Swansea City in the Premier League.

‘Veep’ Just Had A Great Season 5 Despite Changing Showrunners: I was someone who worried about this, and the HBO show's fifth season could not have been any better. Three episodes could make the case as being the series' funniest. Seriously, go binge it.

Finally, the death of director Michael Cimino over the weekend gave us a chance to review his marvelous film 'The Deer Hunter' and suggests folks check out 'Heaven's Gate,' critically and popularly maligned in its time in part for Cimino's excess. The fantastic documentary 'Final Cut' provides some light on it:
