D.C. United will play their first Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup game on June 15, presumably at the Maryland Soccerplex, as they will host the winner of a June 1 match between the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and Richmond Kickers.
D.C. defeated the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in last year's fourth round match before falling to the Philadelphia Union in the Round of 16. They lost to the Rochester Rhinos in 2014's fourth round match after playing the Kickers in the fourth round of the 2012 and 2013 tournaments.
The Strikers' roster includes such former D.C. players as Nana Attakora, Julius James and Maicon Santos, and they are currently 8th in the Spring Season of the NASL. Tied for 6th in the Eastern Conference of the USL, the Kickers are D.C.'s USL affiliate and D.C. would presumably use many second choice players (who normally would be loaned to Richmond) for the match. The MLS Regular Season resumes play on June 18 after a two and a half week shutdown during Copa America group stage play, with D.C. going to Texas to play the Houston Dynamo.
