Fantasy Focus: No Piatti, No Party

Goals abound in round 1. Who profited the most?

Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

Before we get to the scores and scorers from round one, here's a friendly reminder to join the Black and Red United classic and head-to-head leagues.

The leader for the round and league is #Gio'd, who scored 104 points. Mauro Diaz (DAL, $10.2) tallied two assists for an armband-aided 28 points to lead the team. Backing him up were Diego Valeri (POR, $10.2), who scored 13 points on a goal and five attacking bonus points, and the pair of Sebastian Giovinco (TOR, $11.6) and Cyle Larin (ORL, $9.1), each of whom scored 11 points on a goal and an assist.

Positional Leaders

David Bingham (SJ, $6.1) earned a clean sheet and scored 9 points to lead the goalkeepers. Jesse Gonzalez (DAL, $6.1) and Brian Rowe (LA, $4.6) each had clean sheets of their own and 8 points. DCU's Andrew Dykstra ($4.9) earned 2 points.

Kansas City's Nuno Andre Coelho ($7.7) earned a clean sheet and scored a goal for 16 points, easily leading the defenders. Tied for second were Matt Besler (SKC, $8.7) and Daniel Steres (LA, $5.2), with Steres scoring a goal and Besler earning a clean sheet. For D.C., Bobby Boswell ($8.0) and Taylor Kemp ($7.5) earned 2 points, followed by Sean Franklin ($7.9) and Steve Birnbaum ($7.4), who both scored 1 point.

Ignacio Piatti (MTL, $10.2) scored two goals and assisted another for 20 points, leading all midfielders and all scorers. Diego Fagundez (NE, $8.2) scored a goal and notched two assists for 17 points, followed by the pair of Mauro Diaz and David Accam (CHI, $10.2), each of whom scored 14 points -- Accam scored a goal and assisted another. Lamar Neagle ($7.5) led United with 7 points, followed by Nick DeLeon ($6.5) and Marcelo Sarvas ($7.0) with 3 points, Patrick Nyarko ($6.9) and Chris Rolfe ($8.9) with 2 points, and Miguel Aguilar ($5.0) and Julian Büscher ($5.5) with 1 point.

Mike Magee (LA, $7.2) led the forwards with 17 points on two goals and an assist off the bench, while Joao Plata (RSL, $9.2) scored twice for 13 points. Four players tied with 11 points -- Will Bruin (HOU, $9.1), Khiry Shelton ($6.1), Cyle Larin, and Sebastian Giovinco -- Bruin notched two assists, and Shelton scored a goal and assisted one more. D.C.'s forwards were led by Luciano Acosta ($8.9), who scored 3 points, and Fabian Espindola ($9.8) who scored 1.

Looking Ahead

In round 2, everyone is playing, and games start on Friday night. I like Jesse Gonzalez in goal on the road against Houston, and Luke Boden (ORL, $5.6) is a good, cheap defensive option at home against Chicago. In the midfield, Mauro Diaz is your man, while you've got to play Sebastian Giovinco at NYCFC.
