Guzan, Gulati, and Goths: D.C. United & Sundry Soccer Links for 2 December 2016

Your Freedom Kicks are served.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

I came to drink coffee and freedom kick.  And I'm all out of coffee.

DC United player from Brazil reacts to team plane crash |  Video with Marcelo Sarvas giving his perspective on the Chapecoense tragedy.

Georgetown women's soccer player took one last shot and landed in College Cup - WaPo:  Goff has a nice profile of Hoya star Marina Paul and how she overcame injuries to get herself and the team where they are now.  (Nice and all, but go Mountaineers!)

No. 1 Mountaineers Make College Cup Debut - WVU Athletics:  WVU takes on No. 6 UNC today at 5 p.m. in the semifinals for the NCAA Women's College Cup. Tips on how to watch are at this link.  The Cup itself, versus Georgetown, is on Sunday.

'One more game': Toronto FC on a mission to win MLS Cup on home soil | Toronto Sun:  Wasn't that a game Wednesday night?  I actually think this Seattle-Toronto match will be explosive - maybe not as wild as Seattle-Montreal would have been.  But I expect to be entertained. Entertain me.

6 MLS clubs that might sign the USMNT’s Brad Guzan | FOX Sports:  The tsk-tsking of Klinnsman is over. It's safe to come home to MLS, everyone.  It's not just Guzan.  Maybe Fabian Johnson, too, according to the Washington Post. The whole thing vaguely reminds me of this scene.

Britain shocked by growing soccer child abuse scandal | Reuters:  350 victims so far.

U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati takes part in talks between NASL and USL - ESPN FC:  Just merge them already.

Online News Site Blocked in 2022 World Cup Host Qatar - ABC News:  Freedom is on the march!

Point of personal privilege:  This will be my last regular Friday Freedom Kicks. I've put in my time, vested in the B&RU pension, and now I'll just be back as the occasional sub.  So old touchline might have a byline now and then. And, of course, I remain forever an active member of the Commentariat.  B&RU is one of the best fan sites around, thanks to you, the Commentariat, and the talented and committed editing and writing crew keeping atop of all things DC soccer. D.C. United fans are lucky to have this place. The past three seasons of FFK have been a genuine privilege.

And your Friday Freedom Kicks treat is Siouxsie, Joy Division, the Cure, Kanye: Watch a Brief History of Goth.

Commentariat, oscillate!  And thank you.
