Fantasy Focus: Three Unlikely Leaders

I did not see that coming.

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Two teams split the lead this week, with Poor Man's Porales and Dukes SC scoring 94 points each. They both used Red Bulls Matt Miazga ($6.1), who earned a clean sheet and 10 points, and Sacha Kljestan ($10.1), who scored a goal and added two assists for 21 points -- though Dukes SC captained him for 42 points. Dukes SC also featured Brad Davis (HOU, $10.4), who scored a goal and added an assist for 16 points. Poor Man's Porales captained Bradley Wright-Phillips (NYR, $11.3), who tallied two goals and an assist for 34 points. Poor Man's Porales is still the leader overall.

Positional Leaders

Goalkeepers

Luis Robles (NYR, $5.8) led with 11 points on a clean sheet over two games, while Tyler Deric (HOU, $5.0) did the same, but earned 10 points of his own. Clint Irwin (COL, $5.4) and Jesse Gonzalez (DAL, $4.1) each earned 8 points, with just Gonzalez posting a clean sheet. For United, Bill Hamid ($6.6) earned 3 points.

Defenders

Three Houston defenders led the position. Each earned a clean sheet, as Raul Rodriguez ($8.0) added a goal for 14 points and the lead, Sheanon Williams ($7.9) added an assist for 12 points, and David Horst ($8.3) scored 11 points. DCU's defense was led by Bobby Boswell ($9.6) with 2 points, while each of Steve Birnbaum ($7.7), Sean Franklin ($8.0), and Taylor Kemp ($7.9) scored 1 point.

Midfielders

Sacha Kljestan's 21 points were good for the midfield lead and a share of the overall lead. Brad Davis was behind him with his 16 points, and Lloyd Sam (NYR, $9.4) scored a goal and added an assist for 14 points. D.C.'s midfield featured Nick DeLeon ($6.4) with 4 points, followed by Perry Kitchen ($7.5) with 3, both Chris Pontius ($7.0) and Chris Rolfe ($9.5) with 2, and both Markus Halsti ($6.9) and Michael Farfan ($6.3) with 1.

Forwards

Both David Accam (CHI, $9.1) and Vicente Sanchez (COL, $7.0) scored 21 points for the remaining shares of the overall lead. Accam tallied a goal and an assist over two games, as well as a ridiculous 6 attacking bonus points in one match against the Red Bulls, while Sanchez scored a goal, and added two assists over two games, with 5 attacking bonus points of his own against Kansas City. Bradley Wright-Phillips was third with his 17 points. Alvaro Saborio ($9.2) led the DCU forwards with 2 points, with Jairo Arrieta ($6.3) behind him with 1.

Looking Ahead

These next couple of weeks are going to be tough. We have unlimited transfers this round, with just 8 teams playing (NE, ORL, MTL, CHI, SEA, TOR, SJ, PHI, CLB, DAL), and everyone else on bye. Next round we only get 2 free transfers to get our dropped bye players back, so take that into consideration when making transfers. Of the limited active players this week, Stefan Frei (SEA, $5.8) looks good in goal vs. Toronto, as Sebastian Giovinco will likely be out with an injury, and Jozy Altidore will be with the U.S.. In defense, Shaun Francis (SJ, $5.3) has scored exactly 6 points in each of his last 6 matches, so use him vs. Philadelphia. In the midfield I like Michael Barrios (DAL, $7.9) @ Columbus, and at forward stick with Kei Kamara (CLB, $9.6) vs. Dallas.

Everyone's Adding: G - David Bingham (SJ, $5.8, +453), D - Clarence Goodson (SJ, $8.5, +268), M - Shea Salinas (SJ, $8.8, +346), F - Obafemi Martins (SEA, $11.8, +312)

Everyone's Dropping: G - David Ousted (VAN, $5.8, -241), D - Matt Miazga (-318), M - Sebastian Giovinco (TOR, $13.1, -313), F - Bradley Wright-Phillips (-340)
