The CONCACAF Champions League's group stage ends tonight for D.C. United with a match in Jamaica against Montego Bay United, who currently sit on the bottom of Group H. The Black-and-Red have already clinched a spot in the quarterfinals next year, and will now set their sights on a high seed and a second straight four-win group stage performance. Tonight's game is also a final audition for several players if they want to be involved in MLS games down the stretch and in the playoffs.
D.C. United Projected Starting 11: I'm not entirely sure who made the trip down, so this is more of a list of who I want to see playing. Give me a 4132 formation with Andrew Dykstra in goal behind a back four of Jalen Robinson, Perry Kitchen (yes, at center back, because he's suspended for the weekend and so Steve Birnbaum can rest), Kofi Opare, and Luke Mishu. Jared Jeffrey should start underneath a midfield trio of Miguel Aguilar, Collin Martin, and Chris Pontius. Up top, Facundo Coria and Jairo Arrieta should pair up again.
Off the bench, look for Conor Doyle to possibly be the only sub used. Gotta protect those first 11 legs.
Match previews: Our preview from earlier is like a nesting doll of previews. Or like Inception. This is the first kick!
What are you drinking?: I have a few options, but am currently leaning towards Fullers ESB. Fall begins tomorrow, and the temperatures are along for the ride, so malty beers are more appropriate.
Prediction: I have a feeling United will need a jolt before picking it up in this one. Montego Bay will provide it with a goal from Dino Williams, but from there the Black-and-Red should respond well. Jairo Arrieta will get the visitors level before halftime, and after that we'll see goals from Miguel Aguilar and Conor Doyle. 3-1 DCU.
