Throwback Thursday: Watch Chris Pontius and Charlie Davies lead D.C. United to a dismantling of Chivas USA in 2011

This game was traumatic for fans of both teams, as Chivas USA supporters watched their team get embarrassed, and United supporters watched Chris Pontius go down injured for the season. Luckily, this video only shows the former.

This game, D.C. United's visit to Chivas USA in 2011, really was the best of times and the worst of times. Charlie Davies rode three Chris Pontius assists to a hat trick, and United's defense held onto the clean sheet. More importantly, by winning, United converted one of its (many) games in hand at the time into three valuable points and put itself at the top of the MLS points-per-game table - a fancy way of saying the team controlled its own destiny in the hunt for the Supporters' Shield. It was the best of times.

But then Chris Pontius went and got his leg broken in the late stages, lunging into a challenge he didn't need to make. United would win just one of its remaining nine games, falling out of the playoff picture in the process. It was the worst of times.

The video for this week, though, it just the best of times - all three of Chuck D's goals (and goal celebrations!) from that 2011 matchup, accompanied by the dulcet tones of Dave Johnson and Thomas Rongen. Please enjoy responsibly.
