World Cup Day 1 Open Thread: Brazil vs. Croatia

We finally made it, y'all. The 2014 World Cup is about to kick off. All the other stuff, important as it may be, is about to fade into the background. Because it's finally time for soccer. We only get one game to discuss in this first of what we hope will be many successful open threads over the next month or so.

Brazil vs. Croatia

Kickoff time: 4pm EDT

Venue: Arena Corinthians, Sao Paulo

TV/Streaming: ESPN for English, Univision para español and WatchESPN online.

Cliff's Notes: Brazil are going to be favored in this one, and for good reason: no matter what FIFA's rankings say, the Selecao are probably the best team in the world. And they proved it at last summer's Confederations Cup, showing that they could stand up to the pressure that comes with hosting a major tournament. That said, Croatia are strong in their own right and will look to Real Madrid's Luka Modric to create something against the hosts.

What Are You Drinking?: If I'd had any forethought, I'd have gotten ingredients for caipirinhas, but I don't. So whiskey. Good ol' American rye whiskey.
