Please somebody correct me if I'm mistaken, but I'm pretty sure D.C. United haven't beaten Sporting Kansas City in MLS play since 2010. Yes, one of the few teams the Black-and-Red managed to best in the Original Worst Season Ever turned into the Mighty Sporks we all know and fear today. Not being able to quickly find video from that 2010 match, though, I've turned to the above video, the 2012 season opener at RFK Stadium, which United lost 1-0 thanks to a CJ Sapong header deep into second half stoppage time.
That would be the only home game DC would lose that year as they Took Back RFK. In 2014, D.C. United again dropped their home opener, this time to the Crew by the more lopsided score of 3-0. On Saturday, los Capitalinos will look to keep their home unbeaten streak alive and to snap their winless streak against the Sporks.
But today, we ruminate on that 2012 opener, if only so we don't let it happen again this time around.
