Whatever your Monday morning routine (mine may or may not include checking Olympic curling results), here are some of the weekend's top soccer links to help get your week started.

Happy Winter Olympics everyone! Exactly once every four years I make time to watch curling, snowboarding, ice skating, and other assorted cold-weather sports. This year's Winter Olympics also gives us a preview of how Russia will do handling a huge global sporting event since they will host the 2018 World Cup in four short years. And, yes, Sochi will be one of the World Cup host cities.

Speaking of soccer, this weekend saw D.C. United in action and B&RU had on-going coverage of all the happenings. What else happened over the weekend in the world of footy? Well, here are a few of the stories we were reading.

World Cup: Jurgen Klinsmann says lack of belief, not ability, holding USMNT players back in Europe | MLSsoccer.com
Klinsmann still strongly prefers his players compete in Europe rather than MLS. He doesn't say those words exactly, but here's a quote:

"My wish is that maybe after the World Cup we get Jozy Altidore, our No. 9, into a Champions League team or Tim Howard becomes goalkeeper of a big team. We have good players, but we don't have the belief yet that we belong in there."

Is this the end for Timothy Chandler's Brazil hopes?

USWNT ties record in 7-0 thrashing of Russia - Stars and Stripes FC
I like this quote:

The match was a total blowout and just how much better the U.S. is was on display in the 60th minute. With a 6-0 lead in hand, Tom Sermanni subbed off Leroux ... only to bring on Abby Wambach.

Spain: Barcelona, Real Madrid take advantage of Atlético’s slip, leaving three tied on points atop La Liga | ProSoccerTalk
In honor of our new defender with a La Liga pedigree, you may be surprised to hear that three teams are tied atop the Spanish league after 23 rounds.
