Freedom Kicks are back, once again, on this the day of the MLS SuperDraft. There will be a separate open thread for the SuperDraft and all of its coverage, so let's use this thread to talk all things non-draft-related. Today, we have Xavi, trades, and lower-division soccer news.
Report: Xavi's Coming After the World Cup - Once A Metro: The on-again, off-again rumor is now apparently back on, with Sky Italy reporting that Xavi will be coming to the New York Red Bulls this summer. Then again, it is Sky, so who really knows?
Seattle gives up Hurtado and Ianni, gets Anibaba, room to maneuver in trade with Chicago | ProSoccerTalk: What was given up in this trade makes me a little sadder about the Ethan White-Jeff Parke trade, right as I was coming to terms with it. However, I will indulge in a little schadenfreude should Philadelphia have traded for the number 1 allocation spot and MLS blocks their move.
Revamped NASL website introduces new features, subscription fee for live matches | Sports | Indy Week: NASL wants to charge people $5.00 a month to stream games and get premium video content next season. As I said on twitter "so little money made, so many fans shut out."
Hounds group taking over Charlotte USL Pro franchise rights | CharlotteObserver.com: It looks like the Charlotte Eagles, the oldest team in USL PRO, will be self-relegating to the USL PDL and the owner of a pro lacrosse team will be buying their USL PRO franchise rights. He wants to start a new USL PRO team in Charlotte, with an eye on grabbing one of the last MLS expansion slots. Should this move go through, the oldest USL PRO teams will be a tie between the Charleston Battery and the Richmond Kickers, both started in 1993.
