While D.C. United is often said to have a penchant for good drafts, the third and fourth rounds of the MLS SuperDraft (formerly known as the first two rounds of the MLS Supplemental Draft) are not likely to produce players that stick on MLS teams. Out of D.C. United's recent draft picks in such a situation, only Joe Willis remains with the team; Brandon Barklage is one of the only other choices that is still with any MLS team. The players selected today will be battling throughout training camp with trialists from abroad, USL, and NASL for the last few spots on the roster.

With their third round draft pick, D.C. United selected Zach Barnes, a midfielder out of Creighton who has previously played with the Portland Timbers U-23 team. In both 2012 and 2013, he started every game for the Bluejays, and tallied one goal and one assist this past season. Barnes is a box-to-box central midfielder, whose MLSsoccer.com scouting report says is a one- and two-touch passer rather than a dribbling central midfielder. The scouting report also says that he could be an option at outside back. Creighton has also provided us with a YouTube highlight video, so take a gander at that:

D.C. United's fourth round pick was Travis Golden, a center back out of Campbell University who is projected to make the switch to left back if he is to have a career at the MLS level. Our own Chest Rockwell predicted this pick, so let us go back to what he has to say about Golden:

That said, Simon Borg's "best of what's left" piece on MLSsoccer makes Travis Golden out of Campbell sound like someone worth taking a flier on. United's right back will be pretty attack-minded no matter who lines up there, so a guy like Golden - who it must be said is a conversion project, though unlike most of those he'd be moving from center back - is worth consideration if he's still available in the 4th round. Maybe I'm just desperate for a left back, but Borg makes Golden sound like a better fit for United than Taylor Kemp was in 2013.

Here are the full results for today's third and fourth rounds:
